2012 Upward Flag Football and Cheerleading Brochure

Another season of Upward Flag Football and Cheerleading is fast approaching! Save $15 and register early!

Form and registration fee may be dropped off at the SVCC office, hours below:
Office open between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday
(closed for lunch between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.).

Online registration will be open Wednesday, June 20th.

Take adavantage of early registartion fees:
Football is only $95 until July 18th! (After July 18, the cost is $110)
Cheerleading is only $95 until July 18th! (After July 18, the cost is $110)

Deadline for registration is August 4th.

Flag Football shorts are optional at a cost of $15.
Cheerleading mock turtlenecks are optional at a cost of $15.

Upward Family, this is the biggest season yet! We’ve posted the season schedule, you can access via the tab above. With so many children playing this year we’d love to have you jump in and volunteer. If you have a knack for helping out please let us know! Have a great season!!

This season looks to be one of the largest Upward Basketball and Cheer Seasons with over 325 children signed up. If you’re able to help in anyway please contact us immediately.

Practices begin the week of Monday, 1/9/12.
First Game – Saturday, 1/28/12
Awards Celebration – Saturday, 3/10/12

Are the evaluations a tryout?
No. Evaluations are designed to create equal teams and give each player an equal opportunity to improve his/her basketball skills.

How can I learn about the unique Upward Sports rules?
Rules unique to Upward Basketball will be provided in the Parent’s Guide. This information sheet will be provided when your child receives their uniform.

Three 6-minute quarters per half
No scores kept in K-2nd divisions
Man-to-Man defense only, to teach fundamentals
Coaches and Referees match-up players based on skill level prior to each 6-min quarter.

My child did not get to play as much as other children – How are Upward leagues different in that regard?
Upward Sports coaches are trained on a unique substitution system that specifically addresses this concern. They are given parameters for substituting players in and out of the game. The substitution system provides every child the opportunity to be in the starting lineup, requires no child to sit out back-to-back segments (Quarters) and allows every child to play at least half of the game.

Practice and Games: When are they? How long are they?
Practices are 1 hour long and the days are typically determined by your coach. I’m sure he/she will work around your schedule. Games are on Saturday’s and typically last 1 hour.

What size Basketball should my child practice with?
Kindergarten Girls & Boys: 25 inch
1st Grade Girls & Boys: 27 inch
2nd Grade Girls: 27 inch
2nd Grade Boys: 28.5 inch
3rd Grade Girls & Boys: 28.5 inch
4th Grade Girls & Boys: 28.5 inch
5th Grade Girls & Boys: 28.5 inch
